"Manipulated resin" a term I use to describe
the use of synthetic resins, usually polyester resin, for use as a bonding agent with high fired clay (cone 7-10). It also
bonds well to metal armatures. Many of my pieces are created by adding multiple layers of resin over an armature. It begins
as a thick pasty substance and when mixed with a hardening agent has a chemical reaction which heats and cures the substance
into a hard solid mass that can be carved sanded and finished. The term 'resin' alone implicates cast resin, and multiple
reproduction. I use "manipulated resin' to clarify each piece is a one of a kind original sculpture.
