The Aspens - California, USA

This drawing was commissioned by a gentleman named Joel. His fiancée Riley, has a very special childhood home that he thought would make for a great ink drawing. I agreed! I was immediately moved by the strong shadows of the home in the reference photos, thus making an ink drawing that has less to do with patterns and detail, and more to do with the balance of lights and darks. The aspens are an important feature and had to be done right. I saved it for last, as I wanted to do them justice. They are very kind people and I gave this one my all. This was done with a 003 and 005 Black Sakura Micron Pen and took 40 hours to ink.
